History of Downtown
More than 125 years ago, Ralph Man and Julian Feild built a gristmill as the crossroads of Main and Broad Streets. That one business blossomed into a community, forming the town they called Mansfield. One of the oldest intact downtowns remaining in the state, these blocks have evolved along with the city, from mud to stone, from commerce hub to retail destination. Nearly 80,000 people and over a century of growth later, the Downtown corridor has retained its charm and is now enjoying a renaissance. With a burgeoning arts and small business community, friendly faces and southern soul, Historic Downtown Mansfield is ready to welcome you home.
