City Council implements major zoning overhaul of Historic Downtown Mansfield
On Oct. 11, 2021, the Mansfield City Council unanimously implemented a new code that rezones roughly 228 acres of land in Historic Downtown Mansfield in an effort to increase private investment in the area and protect the area's historic and cultural heritage.
Consistent with the community's vision for restoring Historic Downtown Mansfield to its historic role as a center for commerce, culture and daily living, the D, Downtown District, is a form-based code that simultaneously expands living, working and gathering options in the area and preserves its historic character and aesthetic. The D, Downtown District supports the continued evolution and prosperity of Historic Downtown Mansfield by delivering a specific set of placemaking controls that guide the visual quality of the public realm, encourage a rich mix of activities and reinforce timeless principles for architecture.
The form-based standards of the D, Downtown District, are laid out in a document from the City of Mansfield's Planning Department that you can read and download it here, or use the document viewer below.
